“Singing through the languages”- Dr. David Kuester, baritone, and Karlos Moser, piano will present a program featuring music for piano and voice by renowned composers in a variety of languages, from Spanish to Russian, from Obradores to Tchaikovsky.
Dr. David Kuester attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying with Karlos Moser, David Hottman and Robert Fountain. He continued his musical training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Eastern Opera Theater and the New York City Opera. He was offered an elite medical research position at Columbia University, which transitioned into medical school and a long surgical career. He retired to Stoughton and returned to performing.
Karlos Moser has a rich history within the music program at UW-Madison. He is credited with building the opera department over his 36-year tenure, and taught the subject from 1961 to 1997. During that time, he produced or conducted over 70 productions, including three world premieres, as well as the American debuts of Haydn’s L'isola disabitata and Piccinni's La buona figliuola. Alongside Rick Mackie, he founded and frequently conducts the Original Hyperion Orchestra, through which he became fluent in ragtime and jazz. At age 95, he still loves exploring music of all genres and cultures—though he has not yet mastered rap, hip-hop or hyperpop.
