Friends, neighbors, music lovers, and generous souls~ We miss you! I apologize for not writing sooner. We hit some turbulence out of 2020 and had a bit of a bumpy landing in the New Year, but things are looking up. If you’ve visited our website lately, you know there isn’t much to see. We’ve had to migrate our ticketing system over to another host and we’ve been busy making everything hospitable for you again. If you can bear with us a little longer, exciting things are on the way. As I’m sure you’re well aware, the Spring 2021 season is again in the process of event postponements. We really hope this is the last one. I feel for everyone who’s been holding on to tickets for what feels like…well, honestly, time feels a little catawampus, doesn’t it? However long it’s been, we really hope to see you in the fall. We still have a lot to work out as far as how shows will be handled once we’re able to open the doors again, but here are a few things that are on our minds: Health and Safety There will be masks, gloves, sanitizing stations, hands-free utilities, ticket scanners, and Health Department standards. We want everyone attending an Opera House event to feel safe and comfortable doing so which means we’ll also be requiring volunteer refresher orientations at a later date. Ushers Needed Understandably, over the course of this uneasy year, we’ve had several volunteers drop their availability. When events do start up again, we’ll be handling a minimum of four shows a week, which is far more than we’ve ever fit into one season. If you have friends, family, or co-workers who love live music, please have them reach out to me by email or phone. This is a great opportunity for teens interested in the arts! Kathy Christenson’s Retirement I am very sad to say that Head Usher Kathy Christenson will not be returning as a volunteer this fall. Kathy has been guiding tours, ushering, and supervising at Opera House events since the 2001 reopening. Always kind and warm-hearted, Kathy will be dearly missed. Head Ushers Needed We’ve been operating at a Head Usher minimum for the past few seasons, but with Kathy’s retirement and the increase in shows, we are in need of 2-3 reliable Head Ushers. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years volunteer experience with the Opera House, and be available for a variety of events scheduled Wednesday-Saturday with a possible Sunday tossed in every now and again. That said, you are not expected to work every show, but we do need at least one Head Usher at every event. Head Ushers work with me to decide on a schedule that suits everyone. Perks of the job: 1st chance to work any event—no Sub List. 6 Free tickets per season to any performance. They can be used by you or given as gifts. Fame and notoriety—not really, but you will get a lot of appreciation from staff and fellow ushers for the extra effort and time you provide. Tasty treats when you’re least expecting it.
