Celebrating 50 Years of Del McCoury is the kind of album only a true icon could release. The Del McCoury Band, featuring Del (guitars, vocals), his sons Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo) McCoury, Jason Carter (fiddle), and Alan Bartram (bass), epitomizes the bluegrass genre.
A devotee of Earl Scruggs, McCoury joined up with Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys in 1963 and spent time learning from the Father of Bluegrass while moving from banjo to guitar and taking up the lead vocals. McCoury took a step back while his family was young, but continued to play weekends and festivals until bringing his sons to the stage in the early '80s. It was a move to Nashville in 1992 that propelled the band forward and cemented their place in bluegrass history. Since then, the Del McCoury Band has enjoyed numerous awards and nominations, countless surprising and inspiring collaborations, and a laundry list of recordings. Today the Del McCoury Band is still playing a stand-out show and celebrating a lifetime of musical achievements one song at a time.
